Plywood production

The Galich Plywood Mill is one of the largest greenfield projects in the Russian timber industry. The company is the anchor investor in the Galich accelerated socio-economic development zone.

The design capacity of the Galich Plywood Mill is 125,000 cubic metres of plywood per year. This is going to be the first maxi-size plywood (7x13 feet) production facility in Russia. The plan is for the company to export 70% of its output. Some 800,000 hectares of forest is going to be leased to supply the new mill with raw materials.

Special attention is being paid to environmental protection. The production shop building and the fence around the premises are to be made of materials that offer a high level of sound insulation. New high-performance filters are going to be installed that filter out up to 99% of the sawdust. The captured sawdust is going to be processed into fuel briquettes. A closed-loop production system is being created with zero sewage: this is to be achieved by using special tanks to effect continuous water recycling in the production process.

The production facility is going to utilise cutting edge timber processing equipment supplied by the Finnish manufacturer Raute at a total cost of about EUR 60 million.

History

Construction of the mill began in 2020. The total investment exceeds RUB 12 billion. The Galich Plywood Mill is to be commissioned in late 2021.

The company is actively hiring in Kostroma Region. There are currently more than 600 vacancies and, with the timber-harvesting branch taken into account, the total number of new jobs will exceed a thousand. A number of newly hired employees are already completing internships at Segezha Group's other companies. The fringe benefits for future staff include private healthcare insurance, company cars for staff and, for a number of vacancies, accommodation or rent compensation are offered.

The new cutting edge production facility in Galich is going to boost economic and social development not just in the town of Galich but throughout the entire Kostroma Region.
