Glued Timber
Glued Timber
Segezha Group is especially proud of its glued beams
-
For our glued timber we use Northern coniferous species (whitewood and redwood) from Arkhangelsk and Vologda Regions and from Karelia Republic. Short northern summer makes these types of wood strong, dense and moisture-resistant with small tight knots. These qualities are valued in wooden architecture.
- Only legally harvested, high-quality and ecologically pure wood is used for our glued timber beams. The whole production chain of wood delivery “from supplier to user” is FSC certified.
- The equipment of Sokol Timber Company (Sokol city, Vologda Region) allows to manufacture strong beams up to 13.5 meters long.
- Production technologies answer to European certificates EN 14080:2013, EN 14081 and strength standards GL24h, GL28h.
- The lamella segments obtained after sorting and optimization are glued onto a finger with water-resistant melamine glue. The glues have hygiene certificates and frost-resistance test certificates.
- After jointing into 12/13.5 meter beams, the lamella segments are pressed together into semi-finished beams of appropriate diameter.
- Today, the Company produces glued timber of 40 cross-section sizes.
- The products are exported to Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, or sold at domestic market.
- The annual production volume of glued timber exceeds 52,000 m3.

Our state-of-the-art equipment enables us to manufacture ideal beams
The equipment of Sokol Timber Company allows to produce heavy-duty beams up to 13.5 meters long.
The innovative system of glue quality control automatically supervises the temperature of each glued joint in every production batch, completely ruling out “manual” control.
Two sensor systems display the whole information on the monitor, for the operator to check. One of the systems is installed in front of the shaping line; it measures the temperature of the lamella segments and captures the data. The second is an infrared camera which measures the temperature of the seams of the whole HFC-pressed structure.
Our quality management system saves lots of glue because the operator may adjust the amounts of glue and electric power spent on the process. Besides, the system performs logging function, i.e. gathers information about the adhesion technologies: glue spending, temperature of each lamella segment, quantity of products in the pressing machine, etc. The data are stored for further control.
Sokol Timber Company operators mastered the new software “on-the-job”. It is also worth mentioning that this is the first system of adhesion process and quality management installed at a sawmill in Russia, and the third in the world.
One of the key components of the optimization line is GoldenEye-702 X-ray scanner manufactured by MICROTEC Company (Italy).
GoldenEye-702 measures density with the help of X-rays, and detects fiber faults and inclinations with laser scanner.
Feeding speed is up to 450 m/min. Maximal thickness of sawn timber is 150 mm.
The installation allows to sort the construction timber into ten strength grades. It informs the line control system about the quality and strength of every single section of the basic timber feedstock.

Glued timber cross-sections

Specification: Types of cross-sections
Glued timber beams of Segezha Group offer limitless opportunities for experiments with construction solutions
Due to their excellent strength and temperature endurance which are particularly relevant for the harsh northern weather, the beams are in great demand not only in Russia, but also in the European countries where they are used both for individual and multi-storey construction.
Segezha Group’s top clients in the glued timber segment are industrial companies dealing with the construction of houses, wooden roofs, structures and floors requiring high-strength and visually good-looking elements.
The beams are utilized for:
-
Trusswork
- Floor decks
- Frame and arch structures
- Load-bearing structures
The major share of the production is sold to Italy, for construction of houses, wooden roofs and floor decks. Especially popular is the GL24h beam of industrial and visual quality, 12 and/or 13.5 meters long.
In Germany, Austria, Belgium, Poland and Hungary our glued beams are sold to small-scale wholesalers who possess their own warehouses and specialize in sales of wooden construction materials.
We use environmentally-friendly and safe glue for our beams
- Production technologies answer to European certificates EN 14080:2013, EN 14081 and strength standards GL24h, GL28h.
- Production technologies are controlled by Stuttgart center specialists; this is confirmed by MPA certificate.
We perform thorough quality tests
- Testing of multi-layer glued beams and quality control procedures are performed by the plant’s own certified laboratory.
- The plant has its own Quality Control Department.
Glued timber is packed into waterproof and UV-proof polyethylene film. The package is wrapped from all 6 sides this providing for complete protection of the product.
Upon the customer’s request, every beam can be additionally wrapped with polyethylene film.
The timber is shipped in containers, by motor transport or by railway.
Loading volumes:
- 46 to 48 m3 for motor transport
- 44m3 Containers 40 to 45’, loaded in Saint-Petersburg.
Tentative delivery terms:
By motor transport:
- Central Europe: 8 to 10 days
- Italy: 10 to 15 days
