Segezha Group Demonstrates a New Type of SKE i4 Environmentally Friendly Package at RosUpack-2019
the 24th International Package Industry Exhibition RosUpack-2019 will take place in Moscow with packaging technological innovations and responsible consumption as main themes.
More than 600 companies from 34 countries are listed as participants. Segezha Group (part of Sistema JSFC), a timber group of companies ranking 1st in Russia and 2nd in Europe in production of industrial and consumer paper packs, is to present its products.
Aside from traditional converting products, the company stand at RosUpack-2019 will feature a new packaging solution for a dry mix industry based on SKE i4 innovative paper.
Packaging made of this paper is notable for a lower weight and strength characteristics, which are significantly superior to the bags of plain paper. The reliability of dry mix bags based on SKE i4 will make it possible for Segezha Group customers to minimize losses during filling bags, loading, and transportation. Besides, lowering the weight of packaging will facilitate optimization of transportation expenses: calculations have shown that fuel economy at the stage of transportation will be up to 15%.
In May SKE i4 packaging by Segezha Group received the Silver Grand-Prix at the Eurosac-2019 International Congress in Ljubljana. Jurors noted the relevance of a new packaging solution by Segezha Group, as well as the fact that improvement of weight and performance characteristics of the bag meets the main global trends of sustainable and lean manufacturing.
Conferences "Packages Today and Tomorrow: Changes under the Influence of Global and Local Trends" and "Ecological Packaging and Responsible Consumption" were key events of the RosUpack-2019 Business Program, where experts discussed government regulation in field of package recycling and tasks set for business and the public.
Antro Saila, WPO's Vice President for Sustainability and Director General of the Finnish Packaging Association, made a speech at the conference on ecological packaging. According to him, a large amount of wastes, mainly after-use package, is overwhelming for environment. Hence public pressure on the industry is growing; politicians all over the world reflect on regulation of the industry and introduction of circular economy. Main obstacles for its introduction are connected with use of plastics in packaging. Currently only a quarter of all used plastics is recycled. As Antro Saila stated at the conference, authorities of the European Union had developed the Plastics Strategy to make all plastic packages either bioerodible or recycled by 2030.
"There's a consistent trend to reject plastic packaging in Europe. The current alternative everyone can use in everyday life is paper. Segezha Group is an integrated manufacturer of paper, as well as of paper industrial and consumer packaging of different formats," Mikhail Mileshin, Segezha Group Vice President for Marketing, commented in his interview to Moscow 24 TV channel.RosUpack exhibition is an open business venue for discussions and experience exchange. Participants of the Business Program are Russian and international experts, heads of the largest Russian and foreign companies – leaders of the packaging industry. As estimated by organizers, the exhibition is visited by about 20 thousand specialists and experts from all over the world annually.
